Product Information. Tame college math and have fun doing so when you study with the Texas Instruments TI-Nspire CX graphing calculator. This handheld calculator has a 3.5-inch color backlit display, and it runs on a rechargeable battery. It has all the features required to complete high school and college math and science curricula.
The TI-Nspire CX supports numerous functions including limits, derivatives, and integrals. It offers color graphs, lists, and the ability to use apps. Texas Instruments uses the Computer Algebra System in this machine, which lets it perform complex calculations. You can see the value expressed in multiple ways, including as linear and non-linear expressions. When you are graphing, you can create a toggle table of categories and values. Students can also use it to create custom sequence graphs. It will check a particular type of point by zooming in to infinitesimally small values.
The analyzing graphs menu allows you to find the zero, minimum, maximum, inflection, dy/dx, and integral. Like a regular scientific calculator, the TI-Nspire CX computes mathematical expressions and solves equations. In addition, it plots function graphs, constructs geometric figures, and performs statistical analyses. You can also use it to model a new version without having to change all the data.
The CX can deliver a 3D graph for polynomial expressions with a clear answer. These calculators also support the creation of a zero matrix, derivative at a point, and complex and real roots of polynomials. When you are using it to store equations, it has an available user memory of 64 MB and total memory of 100 MB. The graphing calculator accepts programmed commands and provides an interactive learning environment.
You can program the TI-Nspire using the student version of TI-BASIC or Lua languages. This Texas Instruments nSpire technology includes available software for Windows and Mac OS X for you to create compatible files. The Nspire CX uses USB accessories to connect with your laptop or desktop computer. It handles documents and data like a computer, and it features a color touch pad for ease of use. With such robust features, the TI-Nspire CX is an essential tool to study for and pass SAT, ACT, and Praxis exams. You can also use this graphing calculator during the SAT and ACT testing situations. This TI-Nspire CX measures 7.5 inches long by 3.4 inches wide by 0.60 inches thick and weighs 8.5 ounces.
The flexible gray case covers the ports and can slide over the back of the Nspire CX while you are using it. You can charge the batteries with a USB cable connected to your PC. Alternatively, you can use the micro-USB port to charge it in your car. It takes about four hours to fully charge the batteries of these graphing calculators. A fully charged battery delivers about two weeks' worth of use in these calculators. This efficient TI-Nspire student calculator helps you work through statistical, calculus, and algebraic problems. Beautiful instrument, will do pretty much anythng you want Bought it for a differential equations class.
It has served me well. Advise: I would consider how far you are going in math before you buy it though. If you are not going very far the fact that no one can help you is very off putting when a TI-84 and 89 will do just fine. But if you are going for the long haul the investment is worth the initial suffering because this calculator is really the best model that I have found. It excels at virtually everything. Bad: It's so fancy that no one else can help you do things with it.
Usually google and the Texas instruments website is all you need though. It is also so good, that teachers usually do not allow it to be used on tests for Calculus and below. Good: Great rechargeable battery, I dim the display to the lowest setting and it lasts at lea st a week (I use it virtually all day). It can handle variable input, putting in x+y doesn't phase it, while the non-CAS nspire cannot accept undefined variables. It can graph anything I ask it to (3D included) and the screen resolution is great. Color screen is definitely better than the Ti 84 and 89 display.
Can be programmed to do almost anything but I am having trouble figuring it out. Has a touch-pad mouse and many keys and operations are done like a standard keyboard computer. It really is like a little computer and the only thing that I have found that gives it trouble are slope fields. The calculator does them just fine but while they are being displayed most other operations are slowed. Verified purchase: Yes Condition: Pre-owned. My best friend in Algebra 1.
Has some flaws but aren't too bad The TI Nspire CX CAS is my best friend in Algebra 1, and it will continue to be for my future math classes. Has the tools I need for solving for variable when I'm too lazy and can also download emulators and games with Ndless. It's good in my scenario because the only electronics allowed out is calculator and laptop, in normal circumstances, and only calculators in test, so I could kill time when I'm done with math quizzes. IMO I think it's the best graphing calculator Texas Instruments has to offer, and it only came out 6 years ago. Definitely has more functions and operations than the TI-84+CE and the TI Nspire CX. The operations could take a couple of clicks to get to, but there are tons of possible operations.
The arrow pad (I don't know what it's called) also serves as a mouse when yo u slide your finger on it, which is useful when you're new to the interface. Later on you can learn button combinations to do things faster.
This thing has it all, even a built-in table of elements. You can import pictures into it as well, and it has a text editor for storing notes. If you download Ndless on this, you can do way more things than just view photos, do Math, or write notes. Ndless allows you to download native programs/apps onto the calculator, such as math extensions (more tools for Math), games (they aren't groundbreaking games due to hardware limitations but they're good enough), MP3/AVI video players,(although they and the video take up a lot of space and you can't hear sound. Keep in mind the calculator only has 100MB of storage which is even less than the average flashdrive) and even emulators for things like the Gameboy Advance or SNES. You would have to connect it to a PC and download it, though. Sadly, the calculator does not come with speakers or even a headphones port, so sound isn't supported on it unless you get really technical, and even then the sound is really limited in both quality and in what programs can use it.
A downside to this calculator that might be a problem for me in the future is that this calculator is so advanced that the ACT test does not allow them. SATs do, however allow these calculators and even my Algebra quizzes allow them. TL;DR Pros: -Multipurpose allows the calculator to be used for more than just mathematics -Battery can last for a month on a single full charge -Significant storage increase. 100MB of digital storage compared to the latest TI-84+CE's 3MBs of digital storage.Games and emulators can be downloaded on it with Ndless, such as Flappy Bird, GBA/GBC and SNES/NES emulators. (This requires a teensy bit of software tinkering but shouldn't be too hard and no bricking has been reported) -64MB of RAM allows impassable amount of calculations to be stored in memory, even when turned off.Includes Text Editor for writing notes -Includes a photo viewer and allows photos to be graphed (it also comes with some photos in the box) -Has a mouse interface for those familiar with Unix operating systems -Looks professional -Thin design -CAS (Computer Algebra System) allows you to input a variable and tell you the value of it or simplifies it -3D graphing! -Color display Cons: -The menus and functions could get a little getting used to -People who have had a TI-84 or similar model will think this is significantly different -The buttons could take a little force to push -Isn't allowed on ACT tests (because it's too advanced) -Takes a while just to do a simple operation. Not too long, but still wastes about 5 secs every time -Screen is a bit sensitive to scratches (screen protectors for this cost about $10-$12) -Takes half a minute for the thing to boot when it's turned off.
Sleep mode boots it significantly faster but wastes battery -No speakers or headphone jack, which means no sound comes from the calculator -This model might be too 'new' for Math classes, as most schools are still stuck in time with the old TI-83 or TI-84 models. Even textbooks denote pictures of the older models. You'll have to teach yourself how to use it on your own -Battery isn't too accessible, so if it runs dry during a test. Just keep it charging the night before and you should be fine, though. Verified purchase: Yes Condition: New. Great product. Hard to use at first if use to other calculator I plan to further my education taking high levels of math possibly majoring in engineering.
This calculator is the most advance one without the computer component. That way you can use it on the sat act ect. Things i like: lightweight nice design colored so easier to graph and the set up. Aslo the 3d is pretty cool too.
Dislikes: only one thing it is a little hard to get use to if you have used ti84 and all the ones similar to it. All in all i believe its a great calculator if your taking advance classes, visual person that needs the colors make it easier to graph, to use in a career using high math or even use in businesses. Now if your just going to use for high school math just go with the ti 84 or ones similar you really don't need it plus your teachers use them in the classes so just stick with what you know another bonus with this calculator you can connect with your computer so you can print graph and more. Absolutely the BEST calculator I own! This is the most awesome calculator I've ever seen! It has the best features of the original first-generation TI-Nspire, but it can do 3D graphing too! And the 3D graphs are crystal clear!
Not hard to see like on the TI-89 or other low-resolution calculators. This calculator also has good battery life too - which surprised me!
Given that it has a color and BACK-LIT screen, I would've thought the battery life wouldn't be too good, but I was wrong. I charged it just once and have used it heavily over the past few days. Some features I really like: 1) The ability to flip between the scratchpad and your current document/problem. So if you're working on a spreadsheet problem, and you really quickly need to calculate something simple - you flip to the scratchpad, type in your equation, find th e answer, and flip back to your spreadsheet.
It's simple conveniences like this that save you so much time. 2) The ability to rotate a 3D graph in real time. 3) Ability to install extra libraries. 4) Alpha keyboard at the bottom so you can easily type in variables. This is a huge improvement over the original TI-Nspire where the alpha buttons were little tiny nobs next to the numeric buttons - if you owned the original nspire, you know the frustration this caused.
To give a fair review, let's take a look at what things this calculator.can't. do - because while it can do A LOT, it can't do everything. HP still has the upper-hand as far as their calculators (HP-50G for example) being able to do the craziest things that no other calc can do. For example, try to calculate 4096 raised to the power of 4096 (4096^4096) on any non-HP calculator. Did you get an overflow error?
Yup, I bet you did! TI's still can't work with astronomically huge numbers, but HP's can. My HP-50G gives you the actual answer for 4096^4096, but the number contains so many digits that it takes two weeks of scrolling to the right to see the whole number (literally, I've actually done this!).
HP's also have some just plain crazy functions that you won't see on a TI, like calculating chinese remainders, but who the heck needs that anyway? So for calculating.practical. stuff, this TI-Nspire CX CAS is still the best out there. I would recommend it to anyone!
